SA2, the SATCOM Availability Analyst, is a multi-platform application that allows operators of shipboard SATCOM terminals to visualize and manage the impact of superstructure blockage on their satellite radio, navigation and television links. It is deployed on US Coast Guard cutters, Military Sealift Command ships, and ships of the US Navy. SA2 Web is the newest incarnation of SA2, which centralizes provision of satellite and antenna data, along with SA2′s orbital geometry engine, on large servers, and features modern, client-side rendering of the resulting antenna views and other diagnostic plots. Current clients include a Javascript-based application for browsers as well as native clients for iOS and Android devices.

My role on the SA2 team over the past few years has been to lead the design and development of the front end of two new clients, SA2 Web and SA2 iOS. We use Ember.js and HTML5 Canvas on the web app and native Objective-C and the iOS SDK on the mobile side.
